Summary

The Business Unit Manager, Cohort Generation, will be responsible for driving both top-line and bottom-line growth within the Cohort Generation business unit (reproductive sciences, breeding, and model generation) while ensuring an enhanced experience for our customers and collaborators.  The incumbent helps drive and implement the strategy of the overall JMCRS Business Units, ensuring timely product introduction, seamless connection with product development to ensure the unit can achieve financial and efficiency goals, and oversees day to day customer interactions and process improvements to enhance customer experience.

 

 

What will distinguish the level of incumbents is the previous depth of supervision, independent judgment used, complexity of projects/proficiency in problem solving, impact of errors, wider range of experience, education, background and specialized knowledge. The Senior Business Unit Manager must be exceptionally persuasive to overcome objections and negativity to achieve the desired result. The Senior Business Manager will also establish strategic direction.

 

 

The preferred location for this role is Bar Harbor, ME; however, candidates in New England will be considered provided they are willing to travel to Maine.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, develop proposals and implement changes to improve the experience that customers and collaborators have in their interactions with all aspects of cohort generation including pricing, SOW creation, scientific interactions, project management and operational readiness.
  • Work with the product managers/Business Unit Managers to implement business strategy and plan. Oversee product launch and holds PMs accountable for timelines and deliverables. Drive execution of this plan through the Marketing & Sales, Operations & Delivery functions.

  • Understand the marketplace intimately thru previous experiences in a sales based position and thru continued daily interactions with dedicated ODMs and direct customer interactions. Utilize this understanding to better position The Jackson Laboratory competitively for today and the future. Drive market share gain for current offerings while seeking new opportunities – either for new products/services or new markets that leverage core competencies and build on The Laboratory’s mission.

  • Lead and develop staff (Product Managers/Program Managers).
  • Achieve financial metrics of P&L and revenue growth.

Qualifications

 

  • BS degree in Life Sciences CRO, Business, Economics or Marketing. MBA preferred.
  • Associate Business Unit Manager requires 1–3 years of experience, Business Unit Manager requires 3–5 years of experience, and the Senior Business Unit Manager requires 6–8 years of experience.
  • Management experience in a science and manufacturing environment in a customer facing role, preferably in sales associated with cohort generation.

  • Strong financial background and experience with budgeting
  • Advanced interpersonal skills sufficient for developing complex, dynamic relationship with a diverse variety of individuals representing a broad cross section of cultures, disciplines and levels of sophistications.

  • Demonstrated experience in formulating and successfully implementing programs/decisions, under tight timelines and pressure, which carry significant financial and business consequences.

  • Ability to travel 50% of the time.
  • Experience in mouse-based research market and with biopharma customers .preferred

  • Advanced analytical skills and market knowledge sufficient to allow incumbent to synthesize new products and services from existing resources applied in novel ways.

  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership in developing and meeting strategic goals.
