CKB is a dynamic digital resource for interpreting complex cancer genomic profiles and is used by clinicians and researchers from around the world to connect cancer variants to therapies and clinical trials. This position is available immediately for a Scientific Software Engineer, within the Computational Sciences Scientific Computing (CSSC) group at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, CT. As a part of a dedicated team, you will use your skills to develop software solutions for internally as well as externally facing applications. You will be a key contributor and a leader, working in an agile development environment, using leading technology, leveraging google cloud, and building robust software solutions. The team puts a great deal of emphasis on quality, testing, automation, continuous integration and continual improvement.

 

*Remote candidates must be willing to travel periodically to Farmington CT or Bar Harbor ME campuses. Candidates within a commutable distance to Farmington campus are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain complex software systems that have an impact on science, research, and clinical operations globally
  • Work collaboratively with a highly engaged team of engineers and curators to develop tools, processes and applications
  • Opportunity to specify and lead the development of tools, projects and products

Qualifications

  • A BS degree or higher in computer science, bioinformatics, or significant related experience
    • Associate Level: 0-3 years of experience in software development
    • Full level: 3-5 years of experience in software development
    • Senior level: 5-10 years of experience in software development
  • Background in genetics, genomics, biology or related disciplines and/or eagerness to learn
  • The successful candidate will have working familiarity with a majority of the following technologies: Java, Groovy, Python, JavaScript, SQL
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong desire to work collaboratively with peers

 

The ideal candidate will also have a deep working knowledge of several of the following:

  • Experience with operational tools such as Git, JetBrains IDE products (PyCharm, Idea), CI Tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo, Atlassian Suite
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and Mac environments
  • Frameworks: Angular, Bootstrap, Grails, SpringBoot, Hibernate
  • Databases: MySQL, noSQL
  • Testing: xUnit, Spock, Webdriver
