The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a creative problem-solver with good detail orientation and communication skills, to join our Global Relations team as an Import Export Specialist. This team is responsible for safe transport and clearance of both animals and perishable compounds worldwide.  This role is responsible for providing materials necessary to ensure rapid Customs clearance of these shipments.  Working with veterinary staff and Customs officials to determine appropriate USDA, FDA, and CDC clearance requirements, the incumbent will facilitate solutions and provide each shipment with the appropriate documentation to ensure clearance.

Please note: Although the majority of work is performed during M-F work hours, this position requires flexibility to respond to emergency requests and course corrections as needed, including rotated on-call responsibility (shared with team).  In addition, this role is currently 30% onsite/70% remote until our onsite restrictions are lifted and then full time onsite.

• Implement, maintain, and update country-specific electronic document endorsement and clearance procedures, in coordination with the unique Customs Divisions capabilities of each country.
• Facilitate processing of endorsements for active shipments. Obtain and interpret foreign and US clearance statues and facilitate communications between foreign and US agencies and JAX staff.
• Coordinate internally and externally, to develop and implement guidelines for export AND import of new perishable products.
• Perform administrative functions including creation and processing of USDA certificates as required.
• Provide advice, templates, and general information on import of perishable compounds.

• BA/BS degree in related field and 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong software skills: Demonstrated ability to learn, use, and drive changes to a variety of software applications, including MS Excel.
• Self-starter with proven track record of creative problem-solving and process development/improvement in a team-oriented environment.
• Exceptionally articulate written and verbal skillset sufficient to interpret government and trade organization regulations, comply with contracts, develop procedures, communicate clearly with non-native English speakers, and produce consistently accurate and professional customer communications.
