Summary

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) has a unique opportunity for an Associate Director, Prospect Research & Management within our Advancement team.  The Associate Director of Prospect Research and Management is responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for individual, corporate and foundation, major and principal gift solicitation. Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services and Operations, the Associate Director synthesizes complex biographical and financial information and creates written narratives that are accurate, complete and actionable. Additionally, the Associate Director assigns prospects to gift officers by interest and affinity, manages movement through the pipeline, and assists gift officers in planning strategies and priorities. The Associate Director tracks the progress of development officers with their prospect portfolios and maintains the contact history.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reactive prospect research briefings for gift officers, Advancement leadership, SMT and JAX trustees. Compile and synthesize various online and print data on specific major and principal gift prospects for JAX.
  • Identify new prospects through proactive research, database mining, JAX’s Strategic Communications lead generation efforts and other sources.
  • Complete monthly and on-demand wealth screenings for new and existing supporters of the Lab. Work with third-party vendors to complete capacity and inclination scoring for all prospects within JAX’s CRM.
  • Draft briefing documents on attendees of JAX’s Advancement events.
  • Complete wealth analysis on JAX prospects within the donor pipeline.
  • Manage the prospect management system within the database to assure prospects, plans, and steps are accurate, current and properly coded.
  • Update and assist with the maintenance of biographical information within JAX’s CRM. Adhere to JAX’s policies regarding the storage and retrieval of information.
  • Participate in data analysis and campaign management projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or a minimum of 8 years related experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in prospect research and management.
  • Proficiency at identifying prospects through constituent list segmentation, electronic database screening, and peer/constituency screening and rating required.
  • In depth knowledge of internet searching tools required.
  • Ability to comprehend and explain complex and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external constituencies including major donors, volunteers, faculty and others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team with diverse individuals.
  • Flexible and self-directed with exceptional organization and time management and prioritization skills and the ability to create efficient systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and/or fundraising database(s) and project management software preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, customer service-oriented outlook.
