As a Postdoctoral Associate in the Beck laboratory, you will join a growing team of researchers focused on how the repetitive DNA content of the human genome contributes to the regulatory landscape of our genomes. We are currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher who has experience in molecular genetics work to continue an exciting project related to mobile element biology in human genomes. Experience with molecular and biochemistry is prioritized, and a willingness to learn computational techniques for genomic analyses is key for this position. The applicant needs to have a deep understanding of the biology of the human genome, and of how to frame a hypothesis. The desire to pursue interesting questions, and to find the true answers to them is paramount.
Our team consists of two graduate students, a computational scientist and a research associate. Your job would be to pursue your research, and (if possible) independent funding opportunities in this supportive and inquisitive team, and to build upon your current knowledge in a productive postdoctoral career. The position is fully funded and awaiting the proper, enthusiastic applicant.
• PhD (or nearing completion of PhD degree)
• Ability to demonstrate effective productivity, presentations, and bench science adaptability.
• Ability to interact with a diverse team of individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program
• Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct
• Proven ability to organize time effectively and work under time constraints, meet deadlines and prioritize work
• Background and advanced knowledge in genetics
• Desired techniques include mammalian cell/tissue culture, human cell culture (including ES cells) molecular cloning and verification, PCR, qPCR, and basic biochemical techniques
• Productivity exhibited in accepted and in press publications
• Experience in library preparation for next generation sequencing
• Experience with ATAC-seq, Hi-C, and ChIP-seq
• Understanding and experience with computational analysis of sequencing data
• Stem cell culturing experience
• Mentoring experience
