    JAX Genomic Education is currently seeking a full-time Technical Training Specialist to join the Courses & Conferences team in our Bar Harbor, ME location!


    This position is responsible for the organization and delivery of hands-on technical training to members of the biomedical research community.  Duties focus on educating professional scientists in the practical use of the laboratory mouse and mouse resources in their research.  The Training Specialist must have broad knowledge of the use of the laboratory mouse in biomedical research.  Participation in the development of novel training programs including new workshops and training materials for distribution to the global scientific community will be a key responsibility.  They should also have the ability to cultivate collaborations and long-standing professional relationships with vendors and members of the research community.  Significant domestic and international travel is required. Bilingual in English and Mandarin is a plus!


    • Develop and deliver mouse related technical training to members of the scientific community, with specific emphasis on new and international hands-on workshop offerings.   Incumbent will become a “Certified Surgical Instructor” in multiple surgical procedures.  (JAX will provide training.)
    • Establish collaborations and key partnerships with off-site institutions.  This includes initiating contact at new institutions and following up where interest in JAX mice and JAX education has been established.
    • Develop digital and/or print training materials for dissemination to the global scientific community.
    • Serve as an ambassador of The Jackson Laboratory to the global research community. 


    • Working knowledge of genetic, genomics and biomedical research methods as would normally be acquired through the attainment of an advanced degree in biomedical science or related field (i.e., M.S. or Ph.D.) and 2 years of hands-on experience or bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of hands-on experience.
    • Extensive knowledge of the use of the laboratory mouse in biomedical research is required. Mouse surgical experience preferred.
    • Ability to develop and deliver effective scientific presentations, courses and/or laboratory training to individuals, small and large groups, representing a broad cross section of cultures, ages, disciplines and levels of sophistication.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present and exchange complex technical information with other advanced scientific professionals. 
    • Must be extremely well organized and have the ability to multi-task.
    • Ability to learn and implement modern software systems necessary to develop online learning and teaching resources. Experience with social media or Learning Management systems platforms preferred.
    • Must have a positive attitude and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.
    • Ability to travel nationally and internationally on a regular basis.
