  • Summary

    The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Biostatistician to join our Computational Sciences group. This position offers the opportunity to make leading contributions to cutting edge research in mouse genetics, disease biology, and translational research in collaboration with the faculty and genetic resource scientists and clients of The Jackson Laboratory (JAX). 

     

    The Computational Science group presently consists of computational biologists, physicists, statisticians and computer scientists who practices principled data science approaches to obtain biologically relevant information from data. The members of the Computational Science is focused on team work and therefore members have the opportunity to learn continuously.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the research faculty & genetic resource scientists on projects of wide-ranging complexity across a diverse array of biomedical disciplines
    • Work largely independently, taking full responsibility for the statistical and analytical aspects of consulting projects. Although many of the activities of this position are similar to the Biostatistician I, the Biostatistician II will be expected to perform these activities with minimal supervision.
    • Takes initiative to keep abreast of scientific staff needs though surveys, interviews, user-group meetings, and other means of communication
    • Participates in delivering training of benefit to scientific staff to be delivered through workshops, presentations, and other training venues
    • Aides in the development of data QA/QC and analytical/statistical protocols
    • Provide clear and concise written work agreements and summary reports of projects in a timely fashion. May also write and edit large sections of a manuscript and/or grant, including the statistical/analytical methods and portions of the results section, and will check manuscripts/grants for numerical accuracy

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience within statistics/biostatistics and a Master's or a higher degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Other Related Field
    • Extensive knowledge of statistical methods and modeling
    • Candidate should come with extensive experience with the methods and processes of data analysis
    • The successful candidate will have working familiarity with a majority of the following technologies:  R statistical environment, Python and C/C++
