  • Summary

    A highly motivated Research Intern is sought to join the group of Dr. Ewelina Bolcun-Filas at The Jackson Laboratory Bar Harbor, Maine.  Research in the Bolcun-Filas Lab is focused on studying germ cell development, genetic causes of infertility and fertility preservation for cancer patients.

    • Helping with mouse colony maintenance.
    • Processing samples for histology and immunostaining.
    • Tissue clearing and imaging using widefield, confocal and multiphoton microscopy.
    • Working with the team to optimize and standardize tissue staining, mounting, and data acquisition to increase throughput, organize and archive large image datasets.
    • Image acquisition, processing, 3D modeling and analysis using Imaris, ImageJ or other software.


    • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biological sciences, computational sciences or related discipline.
    • Previous experience in an academic setting performing statistical analysis; interpreting and evaluating results, and compiling data preferred.
    • Explicit interest in pursuing and completing eligibility requirements for continuing studies in biomedical and/or clinical research; or in pursuing a medical profession.
    • Ideal candidate will be familiar with Python, Perl, or R programming languages.
    • Ability to interact in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
    • Demonstrated ability to positively influence the behavior of teammates.
    • Ability to work flexible shifts (evening/week-end/holiday).
