The Product Manager will drive business and product strategy within the In Vivo Pharmacology Business Unit and is responsible for driving top and bottom line growth for existing and new products and services. Major areas of oversight may include defining and implementing business strategy related to product and service definition, performance metrics, product and service quality, customer satisfaction, sales and market analysis, revenue forecasting, inventory optimization, pricing and discounting, new products and service development, and ensuring an enhanced experience for customers. The Product Manager will have and continually seek in depth understanding of the market through sales and market data analysis and by working closely with customers and customer facing staff. The incumbent may be responsible for managing 1-2 staff members. Senior Product Manager is distinguished by the level of leadership and independence, supervision of subordinate staff, the proficiency of proactive problem solving, complexity of projects, ability to establish strategic direction, and success at improving the customer experience and growing the business through development and implementation of creative solutions. The Senior Product Manager regularly puts themselves on the front-line to advocate for positive change and overcome objections and negativity to achieve the desired result.
JAX Mice Business Unit Product Manager:
This position reports directly to the Business Unit Manager overseeing the assigned Business Unit(s). This position interacts extensively with management and staff in Reproductive Sciences, Genetic Engineering Technology,Breeding Services, Customer Service, Production Planning, Opportunity Development, Business Development,Technical Information Services, Strategic Accounts, other Business Unit Managers and Product Managers, Marketing and the Project Management. Success in this position also requires routine interactions with external customers and collaborative interaction with other Jackson Laboratory managers and personnel whose teams impact the customer experience which may include, but are not limited to Comparative Medicine and Quality, Production Operations, Genetic Resources, IT, Finance, System integrations and Logistics, and Transportation.
Minimum of Bachelors degree with preference in Life Science or Engineering. Laboratory or research experience and thorough understanding of genetics desirable. MS, PhD and/or MBA/MBS degrees would be preferred.
Minimum three years’ experience as a Product Manager or related business environment position with documented proficiency in key competencies associated with assigned area. Experience in mouse-based research market preferred. Experience in the biomedical research marketplace preferred. Two to three years in a customer facing position preferred. Certification in a quality management program (e.g. Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing) preferred.
Demonstrated successful experience in formulating, implementing, evaluating, and communicating complex plans and programs and creative problem-solving as
needed to launch and support products and services.
Must have excellent human relation, communication, listening and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of supervisory processes and techniques of leadership as would normally be acquired through three years of lead or supervisory experience.
Interpersonal relationship skills sufficient to allow incumbent to effectively lead others, to develop consensus among those holding disparate opinions and to
work effectively with individuals and groups made up of people representing a diversity of levels and degrees of sophistication.
Ability to manage expectations of collaborators and managers and motivate team members to execute and deliver results.
Ability to organize, manage and monitor multiple projects to successful completion, adapting to shifting priorities in a high-pressure environment.
Advanced analytical skills and market knowledge sufficient to allow incumbent to synthesize new products and services from existing resources applied in novel
