    Do you want to work on the future of genomic therapeutic and diagnostic innovations? This is a new position with the opportunity to work on diverse disease areas with the JAX faculty as a true discovery engine. You will be working to set up licensing and partnering deals with JAX programs and setting up new companies for JAX. This is a solid business development opportunity to create partnerships that may produce diagnostic and therapeutic breakthroughs for patients and measurable value for JAX.

     

    To ensure the success of this position, you will report directly to the VP of Translational Science and Network Alliances. You will work closely on contract and business terms with our Legal group and engage routinely with our amazing 29 associated Nobel Laureate faculty.

     

    Ideally our Director, Scientific Translation & Alliances will be located in Maine, Connecticut or Massachusetts as they will need to spend time at both our Bar Harbor, Maine campus, and our Farmington, Connecticut campus.

    Responsibilities

      • Effectively partner faculty patent applications to generate value for JAX. Perform background diligence on each case regarding drafting business plans, evaluating NPV and assessing competitive market as needed. Working with faculty to identify possible licensees, collaborators and/or investors in possible spin-out companies, and contacting them for initiation of discussion.
      • Represent JAX with outreach to venture capitalists, participation/presentation at major partnering meetings, marketing of JAX programs, management of major alliances.
      • Lead the identification, introduction, negotiation of new collaborations for JAX faculty including SBIRs, License & Royalty arrangements, Sponsored research agreements, research agreements with Pharma/Biotech.

    Qualifications

      • Ph.D. or MS in biomedical sciences highly preferred and a keen curiosity of science necessary.
      • Experience in business development, in- and out- licensing, mergers & acquisitions, or institutional representation to progress and develop value.
      • Track record of outreach to various parties, self-starter for initial discussions and introductions, use of network contacts.
      • Excellent skills in oral and written communication to clearly convey and receive information and ideas.
      • Established network of contacts in biotechnology, diagnostics, research tools, software commercialization preferred.
      • Must be able to travel up to 50%, mostly domestic.
