  • Summary

    The laboratory of Dr. Cathleen Lutz seeks a Research Assistant to join the In Vivo group.  The successful candidate will be a collaborative member of this cross-functional team and may be assigned work within the Research and Development (R&D) team.     The position involves performing general routine laboratory procedures, such as laboratory maintenance; mouse colony husbandry and genotyping; sample collection; clinical evaluation; molecular biology and biochemistry (e.g., PCR, Western and Southern blots, RNA analyses); and, with training, the operation of advanced phenotyping tools, such as metabolic cages, electrophysiology recorders, etc.

     

    The role requires a highly motivated individual with a passion for learning and who works well in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment.  The ability to follow established routine procedures and defined schedules, to keep detailed records, and to work well within a team are critical attributes.  Experience in mouse husbandry is desired but not required.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Follows best practices and standard processes in daily work that support efficiencies, quality, and safety, with a customer service focus;
    • Conducts tests, experiments, and/or procedures following standard or detailed protocols;
    • Basic lab animal handling skills and general lab sanitation;
    • Accurate data entry, using lab IT systems and databases;
    • Maintains appropriate documentation as required by protocols and SOPs.

     

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in biological/life sciences OR 1-3 years of related experience;
    • Previous lab experience is desired and proven proficiency in any of the techniques described above is a plus;
    • Knowledge of computer software applications encountered in a normal laboratory setting;
    • Ability to work on an irregular schedule (evenings or weekends) based on experiment requirements.
