  • Summary

The O’Connell and Kaczorowski Labs at The Jackson Laboratory are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in systems genetics of hypothalamic dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease. This project will exploit our novel mouse model of genetic diversity and AD to investigate how hypothalamic dysfunction contributes to the onset and progression of AD using state-of-the-art genomic approaches, neurobehavioral and metabolic phenotyping, and genetic engineering technologies. We are particularly interested in the influence of obesogenic environment on susceptibility and resilience to Alzheimer’s Disease. The successful candidate will also use human datasets to explore the translational relevance of candidate genes and pathways.

The Jackson Laboratory ( in Bar Harbor, Maine, USA, is recognized internationally for its excellence in research (e.g. The Nathan Shock Aging Center and Center for Novel Alzheimer’s Disease Models), unparalleled mouse resources, outstanding training environment characterized by scientific collaboration, and exceptional core services - all within a spectacular setting adjacent to Acadia National Park. Translational research collaborations in genomics-based, personalized medicine are fostered through our JAX Genomic Medicine campus in Farmington, CT. In addition to lab-based training, JAX has developed a unique program for trainees to expand their professional skills in science communication, entrepreneurship, teaching, mentoring and laboratory management to best prepare postdocs for future career opportunities.

Exceptional postdoctoral candidates will have the opportunity to apply to become a JAX Postdoctoral Scholar, a selective award addressing the national need for research scientists who are accomplished in the broadly defined fields of genetics and genomics. The award includes an independent research budget, travel funds, and a salary above standard postdoctoral scale.

Ability to plan, execute and analyze an independent research project as well as exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Preference given to self-motivated and career oriented individuals.
